Bočvarski recalled that at the start of his term, Toshkovski had promised a professional and efficient police force, reforms, a higher level of security and stronger public trust. According to him, professional criteria for promotion had also been promised, based on education, experience and ability, rather than political affiliation.

According to the SDSM MP, instead of the announced reforms, legal solutions have been adopted which, he said, create opportunities for political influence and the politicization of the police.

“Through principles that do not belong in a country aspiring to join the European Union and NATO, you attempted to undermine the principle of the career system, with a law that seriously creates room for political influence and the politicization of the police, as in the period before 2017,” Bočvarski said.

He also stressed that experts, trade unions and professional circles had previously warned about the risks related to politicization, the lack of transparency and the undermining of the merit system in the Interior Ministry.

Bočvarski said that citizens have seen firsthand a serious deterioration in the country’s security situation. “In recent years, the public has witnessed a series of murders, attempted murders, armed clashes and other serious crimes that created a sense of insecurity among citizens,” he said.

He added that additional concern is caused by suspicions of the leaking of official secrets, affairs linked to people from the highest state circles, as well as cases that raise questions about the effectiveness of internal oversight in the Interior Ministry.

The Ministry said that on 24.06.2026, at 08:20 in Strumica, police officers from the Strumica Internal Affairs Department arrested P.P. (48) from Strumica following an earlier report by his 43-year-old former partner. She stated that on 23.06.2026, at around 23:00, in the yard of her family home, after a brief altercation, he physically assaulted her. According to the report, he had been psychologically and physically abusing her for a longer period of time and had also threatened her.

On 23.06.2026, at 16:30, police officers from the police unit in the village of Zajas, in the Kičevo region, deprived F.R. (45) of his liberty after it was reported that he had attacked his sister in the family home with a wooden object.

In Veles, on 24.06.2026 at 03:40, police from the Veles Internal Affairs Department arrested K.Sh. (18), after it was reported that he was keeping his 18-year-old partner from a village in the Vinica region in his home, threatening her and not allowing her to leave. The public prosecutor and the Center for Social Work in Veles were informed about this case.

Also, on 23.06.2026 at 18:30, on “108” Street in Tetovo, police officers from the Tetovo Internal Affairs Department detained P.A. (36), following a report by his 60-year-old father. According to the statement, in the yard of the family home he behaved aggressively, damaged part of the household furniture, and threatened him and his wife.

In another case, on 23.06.2026 at 19:40, police officers from the Kriva Palanka Police Department arrested M.S. (19), after it was reported that over the past period, on several occasions, he had stalked, harassed, and threatened his 18-year-old ex-girlfriend. As the Ministry of Internal Affairs said, he was taken to a police station.

In conclusion, the Ministry stressed that measures are being taken to fully clarify the cases and that, after they are documented, the appropriate charges will be filed against the persons involved.

In his address, Toshkovski stressed that migration should not be viewed as a distant political issue, but as a reality felt every day by states, institutions, and citizens.

He said that migration is seen at borders, in communities, and in people’s lives, adding that over the years Macedonia has understood that the proper management of this challenge requires continuous investment in human resources, improvements to border infrastructure, and close cooperation with neighboring countries and European agencies.

Speaking about the European Union’s new Pact on Migration and Asylum, the minister emphasized that its successful implementation is possible only if the Western Balkan countries are actively involved in the process of alignment and implementation of the new policies.

According to Toshkovski, the pact cannot have its full effect if it is implemented only within the European Union while the Western Balkan countries are left alone to face the consequences and difficulties. He called for real cooperation, sustainable financial support, operational assistance, and formal partnership mechanisms that would ensure the harmonization of legislation, the exchange of information, and joint activities.

The minister added that North Macedonia remains committed to modernizing border management, developing the concept of smart borders, strengthening training and information exchange with partner institutions, as well as protecting vulnerable categories of citizens and combating the smuggling of migrants.

Several thematic sessions are expected during the meeting, focusing on preparations for the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Prague Process and the new 2028–2032 Action Plan, current migration policies in the region, as well as concrete measures and actions to address migration challenges.

According to the police statement, the incident occurred on 22.06.2026, at around 22:50, on “Adriatic Highway” street in Skopje, where police officers stopped a Ford vehicle with Skopje license plates, driven by M.I. (19) from Skopje.

The inspection revealed that the vehicle was transporting around 90 shipments containing various products, placed in black bags and without the relevant documentation. During the checks, it was also established that the driver did not have a category B driver’s license.

Police said that the owner of the vehicle is E.Sh. (20) from Skopje. After the inspection, both were taken to a police station and deprived of their liberty for further procedures.

A criminal complaint will be filed against M.I. for driving a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, based on Article 297-a, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code.

According to the information, on 21.06.2026 at 15:45, the Prilep Department of Internal Affairs was notified of a collision on this road involving a “Toyota” passenger car with Bitola plates, driven by D.R. (24) from the village of Musinc, Municipality of Mogila, a “Seat” vehicle with Kavadarci plates, driven by V.M. (54) from Bitola, and a “Mazda” vehicle with Skopje plates, driven by G.M. (51) from Skopje.

As a result of the accident, V.M. sustained serious bodily injuries, while her passengers S.V. (37), N.V. (40) and two minors, all from the village of Vozarci in Kavadarci, as well as the two drivers D.R. and G.M., suffered bodily injuries. The injuries were confirmed at the City Hospital in Prilep, while an investigative team from the Prilep Department of Internal Affairs carried out an inspection at the scene.
